Can't delete a file on Windows 2008 R2 file server

Hi,

We have a MAC that routes files on a share in a Windows 2008 R2. There is a file that was created and it can't not be deleted. The permissions are corrupted and no user has access either at the NTFS or sharing level.

I have ran FileMon (sysinternals) and have I've tried to delete the file via command prompt but I am getting the same not permission message.

Ownership can be taken because the permissions are messed up and can not be accessed.

We have also check "Open Files" but this file is not being used.

I have attached the CSV log file from FileMon that shows what happens when we are trying to delete the file.

We might try reboot in safe mode and delete the file, the other thing we wanted to do was to boot with a mini Linux and try to get to the file but both methods require reboot.

Does anyone know any way to get this done?

Thank you.

sysreq2000,

I haven't rebooted yet but I think you might be right. Somehow now when a try to delete the files goes away, however when I do a refresh the file comes back...

If I try to move the file I get the file permission problem.

I have also tried to access the SMB share through a Linux server and the file is not there, I can see other files but this particular file is not there.

As soon as I get a windows I will a try to rebot.

Yup that sounds like what happened to me. Rebooting cleared it all up.

pony10us,

Thanks for the KB. Now that I have seen that connecting to the share through linux I don't see the file I do think that this is a currupted file that is not longer available and the Windows file system is still showing it but there is no physical presence of the file on the storage array.

I will try the reboot if it doesn't work I will move to your KB.

thank you
I agree with both of you.  I have seen the same issue where a file has been deleted yet remains in the list.  A reboot should clear that up.  Best of luck.
