Active Directory 2003 - uploading photos to the ThumbnailPhoto AD attribute...
I am looking to uplaod images into our AD 2003 environment by taking advantage of the ThumbnailPhoto attribute.

I am looking for an example of what the sytax should be within Active Directory Users and Computers.  I am looking to do this in the native environment rather than through a third party utility.

thanks

thanks hanccocka - I need to be at the 2008 schema version to take advantage of the existing ThumbnailPhoto attribute?  the article you referenced didnt explicetly help me understand.

We are at the 2003 R2 version of the schema.  we are wunning AD 2003 R2 with Exchange 2003 SP2.  we are migrating to the Exchange Online- and I want to be able to publish employees pictures in Outlook, Lync, etc.

You should be okay with 2003. But whether most applications today expect a later schema, e.g. Windows 2008.

Outlook and Exchange 2010 both use ThumbnailPhoto attribute.

If you do not want to use third party software (which is much easier and highly recommended), you could use PowerShell.

do you know how i would just upload the picture into the ADSI edit tool?  i attached a screenshot of the page.  I suppose i could use a third party tool, but would rather avoid it.

that Powershell script will import the photos!

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
