SMTP Server settings - Depends on ISP or Mail Host ?
I have an Email address @MyDomain.com (not Yahoo, Gmail, etc) from a domain name we registered and hosting space that we pay for.
I am having trouble sending any outgoing Email, even To/From myself.
The error I get is "The Server rejected the Email" "The Server does not allow relaying".
I CAN send from the Office ... but CANNOT send from any mobile device, nor from my computer when I travel with it &Â use it wirelessly.
My Hosting company says it's ISP's problem (like when I connect wirelessly when traveling) AND of course, the Wireless provider all say it's my Hosting Company's problem.
SO Who's right?

See if there is a "POP before SMTP" setting and see if it's set at the Office. If so, see if the devices have the same option.

At the office I have Cable via Cox Communications, and I use Cox's SMTP Server settings, which work fine when I am connected to the Internet using Cox (at office) ...
then when I roam, no wireless ISP seems to allow the use of the Cox SMTP Servers. (Which I have been using as smtp.west.cox.net, with no login.
My Hosting company is LunarPages ... I have the Dedicated Server II package from them. Lunarpages has always been excellent ... have had them 3+ years now ... I may be asking them the wrong question.

thats correct.. the problem is Cox's SMTP server.. its not allowing you to RELAY email from another ISP to them (if they did they be being spammed all the time as there server would be insecure)..
so.. when you are roaming.. who is your carrier ? its THEIR SMTP server you need to put in your SMTP Server settings..

here is the support article from Lunarpages to set up SMTP:

It appears that they are recommending to use your ISP (not ideal)
Get in touch with your ISP, and ask if they have secure smtp available.

Or see if they have an alternate port. 587 is a common one. ISPs like cox ad Comcast only check port 25
Sorry PsychoFelix,
What you are describing is an open relay - which is what we are trying to avoid!
Having to change outgoing smtp servers everytime you change networks is also a pain in the butt. Hopefully blegge's ISP can sort them out!

no.. you have misread what i typed.. i was saying that IF COX ALLOWED you to send from any carrier they would be an open relay.. so they have it blocked.. to prevent that.. so.. if you have a single on each device simply set the outbound SMTP to that carrier's SMTP server. .problem solved.. or as craig stated at the beginning use AUTH SMTP to solve the issue no matter which carrier you are using..

I'd say that's the second best setup unless you never move your computer. An alternate port completely bypassing an ISP checking port 25 is probably better. But I'd it's a desktop that doesn't move, both will work
Thanks rogerhunt - I couldnt get into that info as I am not a cox customer!
Bleggee - go with that suggestion!

so your incoming mail server will still be your mail server at your office, but your outbound SMTP will be the ISP of your carrier.. so mail.<telco>.com etc..
Secure SMTP is definately the answer long term, but for a quick fix try the above and you'll be able to send again..
