Adobe Creative Suite Design Standard 5.0 and 5.5 Compatibility

Hello Experts,

When I try to open files created using In Design from Creative Suite 5.5 within In Design within Creative Suite 5.0, I can't and it tells me I don't have the right plug-ins.

The In Design 5.5 is a standard install so I don't understand what I need to add to my software to make it work?

I can't believe that 5.0 and 5.5 are not compatible and to upgrade is hundreds of dollars.

Please help me!

I'm sorry to report that InDesign 5.5 files are not backward compatible with 5.0.
This may be of help though: http://blog.digitalarena.co.nz/?p=1593

Thanks Ivanoviola,

They broke compatibility between a .5 update??

How do you go about updating the plug-ins perhaps that might work.

If I can find the plug-ins on the 5.5 software, and manually copy them over to the Mac with 5.0 installed.

Perhaps that work make them compatible?

Can 5.5 be changed so it saves as the IDML format as default? Having to manually export files in  a different format manually every time will be a nightmare for those on the newer software.

Thanks for you help.
inDesign 5.5 plug ins are not compatible with CS5. I don't think you can set IDML as default. It's crazy to believe that they would may a change like that halfway through a version and expect people to pay for it. Really it should be a free upgrade.
Thanks.

That is totally crazy, they want $475 to upgrade from CS 5.0 to CS 5.5 too!

Is there anything on the Adobe site that says for sure that the two are not compatible?

I couldn't find anything!
