Windows XP on a dell laptop and wireless router :

I just purchased one of those Ethernet adapter jobbies  - you plug one of them it into the mains - First one into the router and one into the mains plug socket upstairs (away from the router) then from the one upstairs, an ethernet cable from the wall socket into my laptop.

I turned wifi off and all seems to be working well. My question is, can I still have wifi 'ON'.
What I want is, when the ethernet cable is connected, that my laptop uses the ethernet connection to connect to the net (as it is quicker) but as soon as I take the cable out, it will revert back to wifi.

What I don't know is, if I have wifi 'ON' might my laptop be using the wifi and not the ethernet cable connection when the ethernet cable is connected.
