Configure Iphone/Ipad for Exchange emails

Hi Friends

We have a couple of users who have Iphones (4 and 4S) and Ipad 2. I was trying to configure the device such that they can use their Microsoft Exchange accounts to see their office emails. We have blackberrys and android devices which can be connected easily.

However on the apple devices, after entering all the information required email, domain, username, password it still does not work. I am not sure of the exact error, but it is in the lines of cannot locate the exchange server.

Hi X-Men

Was there a link?
Hi Elmar

I had seen this link earlier. I have an exchange 2003 with SP2 installed. Going through the link you sent me, all I can think of is the SSL certificate. How do I verify if this is the issue?
Your Exchange Server have a certificate?

Test it with following workaround:

Send the certificate via Email attachement to you iPhone and Import it. Then connect to Exchange via iPhone use Mail configured for Exchange...
Hi Elmar

Apologies if my query may sound foolish but how I do I retrieve the certificate from the Exchange?
If you are admin of the exchange you can export the certificate in iis configuration.
Use the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer by clicking on this LINK.

It will also analyse your certificate.
iPhone does not check for certificate validation. I'm using an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and have my company's Exchange connected at all times.

We had, although, problems with some iPhones and AD user accounts, which was necessary to grant in AD special features in order to be able to access.

Did you make sure inherited permissions are on? If your user is or ever was a member of an AD protected group then it'll be off.
Hi,

All the members are not in the protected group. Another query popped up in my mind though. Does Iphone 4S and Exchange Active Sync work through Wifi or only through 3G?
Hello,

It does work through wifi and / or 3G.
Hate to brake the news, but iOS does check for validation. But you can bypass it if the device asks you to accept a certificate if it cannot be validated.

What does the url of the server looks like, when you fill out the connection settings for the mail on the iPhone?
Errr, everyone knows that.

In Windows Phone you can't bypass. Thats the whole point. You've just added useless info, as it reflects in pretty much.. Nothing, on the issue.

As for the server name, you will only need your external SMTP: ex: mail.yourserver.com

If you choose "Exchange" in the iOS, it will auto configure every other step (besides, and to avoid captain obvious material, username and password).
Well if that's the case, all I can assume is I am making a mistake while entering the details. Please see if the following fields are correct :-

Email : name.surname@mycompany.com
User Name: name.surname@mycompany.com
Password:
Domain: Domain name which is used when logging into our account
Server: mail.mycompany.com (We use http://mail.mycompany.com/exchange in OWA)

The only thing left to try is the user name : domain\name.surname

Androids were so effortless!
Try this

Email: name.surname@mycompany.com
User Name: name.surname
Domain: Domain name which is used when logging into your account
Server: mail.company.com
This was tried earlier on with no luck.
Whoops. Hadn't noticed. Sorry.

For syncing through wifi, bare in mind, that syncing using your company's wifi could be disabled by the firewall policies. Otherwise, it should not give you any problems. To be in the clear, turn of wifi.

Are you using an Exchange front end server solution? Or just one Exchange server?
See this link so you can check your IIS settings.
Hi,

Using Wifi at home with no firewall set. So that shouldn't be the problem.

Just one exchange server at the location. Let me check the IIS settings
Hi,

Then wifi should not be a problem.

Following link is perhaps easier to read: LINK. It concerns the problem of syncing with only one Exchange server.

Good luck!
Hi

Sorry for coming back so late on this one. Had a long vacation. While I was on vacation, I met with anther Admin, who has only one Exchange server 2003, and could connect his iphone 4 and Ipad. I tried mine and it is still not working?
