Microsoft PPT Question (font and rectangle)

I am using MS PPT 2002 SP3

I drag a rectangle to the slide, and give it some healthy amount of space.

The software draws the rectangle and then places a light blue background of the rectangle.

I then right click inside of the rectangle to find a way to change the background color of the rectangle, but I can not find a way to do that, nor can I find a way to do that when hitting the "Format" menu.

There is  obviously a way to do this, but I can not find it.

Can anyone please give me the correct path on how to do this ?

Thanks
