Copy paste issue in citrix

Hello

We are having the following issue:
1.      A selection in Excel (Citrix) session is done
2.      This selection is copied into clipboard (Edit > Copy)
3.      Then a Paste Special … is done into Powerpoint (locally installed and started)
4.      when a Paste As … an Enhanced Metafile or Windows Metafile is done, the selection is cut off (no all selection is pasted)
5.      when a Paste As … an Device Independent Bitmap is done the all selection is pasted

What are the exact steps we used for our tests:
1.      Start EXCEL (2007 if possible) Citrix session
2.      Start POWERPOINT (2007 if possible) installed locally on workstation
3.      Open EXCEL document in Citrix session
4.      Select zone
5.      Copy
6.      Back to POWERPOINT
7.      Paste Special ...
8.      Paste As: Picture (Enhanced Metafile) --> Cut off
9.      Add New Slide and repeat Copy Paste Special action
10.      Paste As: Picture (Windows Metafile) --> Cut off
11.      Add New Slide and repeat Copy Paste Special action
12.      Paste As: Device Independant Bitmap --> ok

We have performed several tests on several versions of Citrix XenApp in combination with different Office versions,
•      XenApp 5 + Excel 2007 versus locally Powerpoint 2007 (Delhaize infrastructure)
•      XenApp 6 + Office 2010 versus locally Office 2010
•      XenApp 6 + Excel 2007 versus locally Powerpoint 2010
•      XenApp 6.5 + Excel 2010 versus locally Powerpoint 2010
Unfortunately, the result was the same and this in all cases, regardless of the versions used.

Our issue is the following:
When the paste is done in POWERPOINT the complete selection is not "displayed" it is cut off.
Users are used to choose the Paste As … Enhanced Metafile (when working with locally installed applications -the complete selection is pasted correctly-) and would like to have the same behavior when Copy/Paste from Excel session into Powerpoint locally.

Plz help

First follow the steps within this link:

However, I believe Citrix would say that certain Paste Special functionalities do not work between Citrix session and the local PC by design!

Hope the above article would help.

Thx for the reply's. The article"s however all indicate problems where the users can't copy paste. We can still copy paste but the problem is that it will only paste a portion of the selection we made. A part of it is cut off. I will try to upload some screenshots later on the day.

Yeah you need to repair session where you are trying to paste the cut.
I have just done some more test. When i start a citrix desktop session, launch excel, copy a selection, open powerpoint locally and paste the selection, I receive the following error in my citrix desktop session: The picture is too large and will be truncated. If i click ok, the paste is done but cut off. If I do the paste in powerpoint in the citrix session, there is no problem. It seems that there is some kind of a limit for the clipboard virtual channel.

When I do a copy/paste from excel in a citrix session to word in the same citrix session using paste special and then windows metafile we get the same behavior. A part of my selection is cut off.
It could be a timing issue.  If you copy & paste too quickly, the clipboard won't have time to completely synchronize between the session and local client.

Try this.. do your copy on the session, wait for a full 5 minutes to try and validate that the clipboard is really sync'd (obviously, if you have a low bandwidth connection and a huge copy/paste, add more time)..  and *then* do your paste.  (You can copy/paste multiple files through explorer to test the clipboard sync and get a feel for how long you really have to wait).

If that works, then it is purely a size/timing issue.  Either tell the users to wait, or install PowerPoint locally with the other office applications, and just eliminate the client clipboard altogether.

This is also a big issue when people have multiple citrix sessions open without session-sharing (i.e. different resolutions, color depths, etc. or differing servers for the apps).  They try to cut & paste between them, but don't realize they are dealing with 2 completely separate cut & paste operations -- server a <--> client <--->server b.  They have to learn to wait for the syncs or copy and paste from the server to the client, and then copy again from the client and past to the 2nd server.

We have contacted citrix to further investigate the issue. I will report back.
