Installation of the second HDD instead of DVD-RW cause problems with shutdown and standby on HP Elitebook 8460p that runs on Windows 7 x64
Hello,
Ii have HP Elitebook 8460p that runs on Windows 7 x64.
I recently changed my original HP HDD 500 GB with SSD (Kingston HyperX 120) and put the HDD instead of DVD-RW.
Everything works fine except that it won`t shutdown, restart and standby through software but I always have to press the power button for 5 secs to shut it down.
When booted in sleep mode everything works fine.
When I put out HDD and replace it with original DVD-RW everything works fine.
I installed latest drivers form HP support.
Any solution?

This was fresh install on SSD but at that time there was also same OS on HDD and I was prompted to choose from which drive to install. Later I formated HDD just to use it for data.
I haven`t applied the SSD firmware update (yet) because when SSD is the only drive everything works fine, no BSOD, normal shutdown/standby/restart so I don`t think it is the SSD that i causing problems.
When DVD is replaced with HDD on shutdown/Stanby/restart on beginning everythinglooks fine, screen goes black, cooler shut down, signal lamp for comp. activity goes off but it hangs in this state not allowing startup before hard shutting down by pressing sut down button for 5 sec.

the link does list such problems - you did not seem to look at at it... ?
You may still have a hidden partition on the hard drive which could cause confusion to the OS. Try wiping it out and checking if it only has one partition - GParted can help you with the partitions.

Do you think hidden partition on HDD or SDD? Is Mini tool partition wizzard helpful with that?

Here is my disc configuration and configuration of the System partition on disc 2 (HDD)

Hi,
I deleted all other partitions on disc :D (SYSTEM nd HP_TOOLS) and now looks like that everything works fine, no more hang ups when putting comp. in standby or shutting it down.
Thanks Callandor,

open task manager before shutting down -and look what is active
also look in event viewer for problems
was this a fresh install on the SSD ?
and does it have the latest firmware ? it may help :
