Keyboard Failure, Press F1 to continue, But it can't
Hi all,
I have a Dell GX520 PC, With USB port only, No PS/2.
When i booted the PC i got a message: BIOS: Keyboard failure: Strike F1 key to continue F2 to go to the setup utility, But the keyboard doesn't work
What have i tried:
- I tested different keyboards (which worked)
- A CMOS reset
- Battery change
- Controlled al the condensators (which where all fine)
What to do?

Seems the keyboard is fried...I'd get another keyboard and be done!

I have tested the keyboard on a other pc and there it worked just fine.
I've also used other keyboard which worked just fine on other pc's
Do you have any other sollutions?

If a different keyboard worked, that's usually the answer. Sometimes keyboards will do that if one of the keys is stucks. Run fingers through the keys several time and see if you get a different result. Otherwise, replacement keybards are very easy to come by.
You say other keyboards worked. You mean they worked on this PC?

The problem is that the pc give's the error with all keyboard even the ones that work just fine on other pc's so i think the problem isn't the keyboards they all work fine.
Ah OK, misundstanding there!
You mention replacing batteries, is it a wireless keyboard?
Did you try a different USB port?

No problem for the misunderstanding
Yes I've tried different USB port they didn't work either
With battery change i ment the BIOS battery
The keyboard's are all wired

Does another USB device (like the mouse) work? (just to rule out a USB port problem)

I don't know I don't come to the point i can use the mouse.
But when i insert the mouse and power the system on. The mouse light flashes one time and then i don't see another signal of power on the mouse.
And the keyboard gives no light either with lights i mean the light you get when you activated capslock

I'm working right know on a same system on which it is just working fine
If you are unable to boot this PC and test the USB ports, then you can't rule out a motherboard with non-working USB ports. Unfortunately, you need working USB ports in order to use a keyboard, so you are stuck. Are there any other devices plugged into USB ports? If so, remove them.
and you tested the keyboard on all ports - front and BACK ? ususally it likes the back ports
ASKER
There are no other USB devices in USB ports.
And I've tested all USB ports on the front and the back They won't work

You say you have a similar system, please swap the motherboards. If it works then you know the motherboard is faulty, which is very likely!

Yes i know but the customer has asked if we coud solve it without replacing the motherboard.
And I already know it's the motherboard my question was if there is a way to solve it without replacing it?

>> the customer has asked if we coud solve it without replacing the motherboard. << haha - and for free too ?
tell him - if it is bad, that replacing it is the only solution, unless he wants to spend $$ on repairing the board in a shop - without guarantee on the outcome; you can replace the usb port chips, or the chipset, and it still may not work
only my opinion

Not if the USB port itself is bad - it would cost you more to isolate the chip or circuit that is bad and replace it than just changing out the motherboard. It is not economical to try to fix components on a circuit board that are as complex as a motherboard.

The motherboard was defect, also no luck with PCI PS/2 card.
