Exchange Extensions for windows backup service keeps stopping

We use windows server backup to backup our exchange 2010 server. Lately we've been noticing that shortly after our backup starts, the exchange extensions for windows backup service crashes. It seems like the service will run fine unless a backup starts.

I checked and the following errors are coming up in the system log when the backup runs:

Event ID 11: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.
Event ID 24606: logical drive 1 configured on array controller P410i returned a fatal error during a read/write request from/to the volume. Logical block address 1676134104, block count 8 and comand 32 were taken from the failed logical I/O request.

These errors go away as soon as the backup fails.

I gathered that  but which disk is it? I believe it likely is the external drive I'm backing up to especially since the only time this error occurs is when I attempt to access that drive.
We are using HP servers, no error on Diagnostic - but still Exchange Extensions for windows backup service keeps stopping
Backup runs but very slow compare to week ago with service running without any problem.
