Hi all,

I have a problem with one of my SBS server which we are having trouble to resolve. We have not been able to send or receive emails for the past 24 hours. This is due to the information store not being started and refusing to start.

I have  bunch of error messages in the application event log which are pasted below.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I have tried rebooting the server and the server would take approx 90 minutes to load up.
I am not onsite and therefore have to work remotely but it get a liitle more complicated because i am not able to dial into the server using remote desktop connection because the connection fails.

I have dialled into a users PC's and i am able to browse the network drives and i am able to view the event log and services by remote management.

I have had a user look at the server onsite and all it says is updating user settings.

Many thanks in advanced for your help with this.

Wayne

Ok after 2 hours and 3 minutes i am able to access the server via RDC.
Most probably DNS issue:
did you by any chance set SBS server's TCP/IP properties --> DNS server to be your ISP DNS server or any other public server? Or your router's IP?
This could cause user profile to load indefinitely.

Server's DNS should point either to itself, or to another Domain Controller inside your local network.
Then inside DNS config, you must setup FORWARDERS to point to your ISP DNS or some public DNS to resolve all other domain names, except your own.

Well, normally for this error I would point you to this document: https://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/A_2829-Exchange-2007-Topology-discovery-failed.html

I would advise you to check your DNS configuration on the server.  Make sure the server has only its own IP in the TCP/IP properties for DNS.  Any other entries will break SBS.

Also, have you added or not disabled a second NIC? If so, disable it.  SBS2008/2011 is not supported in a dual NIC installation.

Final thought, have you by any chance added the Hyoer-V role of VMWare Server or similar? These all make significant changes to the network configuration of windows that puts SBS in to an unsupported state.
Oups, sorry.... best way to resolve is to re-run Internet connection Wizard on SBS. And keep in mind my prevoious comment.

Hi Demazter,

Many thanks for your reply, there is only one NIC enabled on the server which has a static ip address and there is no Hyper-V role of VMWare installed.

i will take a look at the link now cheers mate

@Waynepre:

What about at least a point split?
I made the mistake by disabling IPv6 myself two years ago and spend several hours with troubleshooting and that way it would turn into something good with the points ;-)
