How to give all members of a Distribution Group permission to Send As?

Hi guys,

I have an Exchange 2003 server on Windows Server 2003.

I have had a search on EE on this topic already and have found some old threads in a similar vein but my question is slightly different so I am asking a new question for it.

I have a Distribution Group that I want to grant permission to all members of it the ability to send emails from the email address of the DG.

Trying to add the DG to itself is a fruitless task but I had a poke around the list of groups and user names that are already granted some permissions for this DG and I noticed a Group called SELF that looks like is added to every group when they are created.

Rather than manually adding and removing user names from the Security for the group like other solutions I have found propose (which is tedious and high maintenance if you have the members changing regularly like in our case) would adding the Send As permission to the SELF group have the same result?

Thanks in advance.

Well, setting the Send As permission on the SELF security group doesn't have the desired effect so once I grasp your suggestion TBone2K.

In the meantime I tried the following.

I made a dedicated mailbox called eventsteam@ that has emails auto forwarded to an Events Team security group.

I have given the Events Team SG send as permissions on the eventsteam@ mailbox. I am yet to confirm whether the members of the Events Team SG can Send As.
Hi again defecta. Yes, you did exactly what I was trying to describe. Sorry it wasn't clear.
Except, the events team security group you are referring to should be a security group. Try and keep email groups and security groups. Or you may have a mightmare trying to sort it all out later.

I have awarded the points to Tbone2K but as I had a little trouble understanding what he meant, so as to help future readers understand more quickly, I have marked my re-interpretation of what Tbone2K described as the best solution. Full points to Tbone2K still. :)
