Can't find a matching balance to reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online and Excel

I have a fairly active QuickBooksOnline (QBO) checking account which, for the past 2-3 days, I have been trying to bring current with its bank statements.  Unfortunately, I don't really feel like I'm any closer now than when I started .

Without going into the reasons why, this particular account has the following situation regarding bank reconciliations (recons):

• up through Feb2008 — reliable monthly recons were done but .pdf recon reports* ARE NOT available
• Mar2008 - Dec2009 — reliable monthly recons were done and .pdf recon reports ARE available
• Jan2010 - Jan2011 — UNRELIABLE monthly recons were done and .pdf recon reports ARE available
• Feb2011 - Jan2012 — no recons have been done
• bank statements are available for all time periods

By "unreliable," I mean that the recons may or may not have been done properly (i.e. I am not certain that cleared and/or uncleared transactions were handled correctly or even that the register really did come into balance with the bank statement).

Since the QBO recon reports show not only the ending bank statement balance but also the register balance as of the statement date, I was hopeful that I would be able to use those values to go back and find a matching balance somewhere in the register.  I even exported the entire QBO register into Excel to compare with the bank "register" (which I already have in Excel from downloads).  However, despite trying several different approaches, nothing has been successful.

With the information I have provided, can anyone suggest an approach that will enable me to get this resolved.  I'm sure that Intuit backs up our accounts but I don't know how long the backups are saved or whether they are available.  Having a copy of the register from sometime in the past would certainly be the easiest way to resolve this but I don't know how I would get that.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

PS  I'm including the Excel zone for this in the hopes that some of the Excel experts have dealt with similar issues in the past.

*Recon reports were printed at the time the reconciliations were completed.  They include the following totals:

Opening Balance
Cleared Transaction
Ending Balance of Statement
Uncleared Transactions as of Statement Date
Register Balance as of Statement Date
Uncleared Transactions after Statement Date
Register Balance as of Reconcile Date

They also include lists of the following:

Cleared Checks and Payments
Cleared Deposits and Other Credits
Uncleared Checks and Payments
Uncleared Deposits and Other Credits
