Hi guys,

I need some clarity - We are in the process of upgrading 3 out of the 5 of our VMWare hosts and upgrading to ESXi 5 in the process. We will be running around 160 VMs.

Our vendor is recommending that we replace the 3 physical DL385 G5 servers we are upgrading with BL465 G7 blades and a Flex10 Ethernet module. We already own the blade enclosure with open bays.  We do not have a space issue in our data centre and the power saving on only 3 machines are not going to be huge.  We have spare ports on our Ethernet core and SAN and with more machines being virtualized we will have more.  The blade/flex10 route has double the hardware cost compared to replacing with 3 DL385 G7`s.
The only advantage I see in the blade/Flex10 route is that the enclosure will have a 10gig eth network internally.  The core Ethernet network is only 1 gig.
