#1)select sum(num_of_reads) from sys.dm_io_virtual_file_stats(null,null) where database_id = db_id ('VERTAS') -- capture sum(num_of_reads) at 9am on Thursday
the database is backed up every half hour (Transaction log) and couple of full backups also.
#2)select sum(num_of_reads) from sys.dm_io_virtual_file_stats(null,null) where database_id = db_id ('VERTAS') -- capture sum(num_of_reads) at 9am on Friday
#3)select sum(backup_size) from msdb..backupset where backup_start_date between '2012-02-09 09:00:00.000' and '2012-02-10 09:00:00.000'
and database_name = 'VERTAS'
the system is not rebooted in the 24 hours.

Will #2-#3-#1 give the amount read of the database in the 24 hour period? Is this accurate?

if you substitute num_of_reads with num_of_bytes_read in my question, then is the equation/assumption right?
