Migrating from Outlook 2007 to Gmail

I'm looking for someone who has migrated their email from Outlook 2007 to Gmail (Google Apps).

We currently connect to a Pop3 server to bring the email down to Outlook.  I'll need to migrate about 10 accounts.  We'll continue to use Outlook most of the time, but want to synch with Gmail.

Our domain is setup in Gmail and I've done some testing with a temporary account.  When I ran the Gmail import utility, it created an Outlook.pst/inbox 'folder', etc. in my Gmail account.  Is there a way to have the Outlook inbox go directly into the Gmail inbox, etc?

As far as I can tell, there are 3 steps.  What order would you suggest I do the following and am I missing anything?

1) Put Gmail IP address into our current email provider to begin forwarding email to Gmail
2) Run Google Apps Migration Tool to upload emails to Gmail
3) Run Google Apps Sync to synchronize emails to Outlook.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Normally you can just export a pst and import it to google....

Export from outlook to a pst

Import pst to gmail

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=34605b03ca99fe10&hl=en

Hope this helps.

Then you just point outlook to the google address at pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com... there are many tutorials describing this in greater detail.

Thanks for the quick responses.  I appreciate it.

I ran "Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook."  From what you said, I would only need to run Google Apps Sync?"  Many of the PSTs will be 3-4 gig.  Are those too big to just run Apps Sync?

When I ran the test on my Outlook account, I got a second profile in Outlook called  "Google Apps" which is where the Gmail email is going to.  Could that be because I ran "Google Apps Migration?"

In Google Apps Sync there's an "Import data to Google Apps Sync" and a "Set up a Google Apps Sync user."  Which one would I run or do I run?  If both, in what order?

You mentioned it was key for me to "finalise the data upload."  How do I do that?

Any ideas how to have the Outlook email go into the correct Gmail label instead of an Outlook.pst label?

If I flip the switch.  Make sure all new emails are going to Gmail.  Then before I run Apps Sync, I "send/receive" in Outlook to pull in any remaining emails on the old server, there shouldn't be any emails left in the old system online.  Am I correct?

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks for the help from both of you.  I now have a good plan going into the migration.
