Backup exec only restores part of Exchange mailbox

Exchange 2003 Enterprise and BE 2010 R2.  I have a backup of a user's mailbox from 12/29/11 that I am trying to restore.  When I go into BE and create a new restore job and drill down into the user's mailbox in the backup set I am restoring from, I see e-mail messages from 2006 through 12/29.

I am redirecting the restore to a different mailbox that I use for restores.  The restore says that it completed successfully, however when I look at the mail in the restore mailbox, I only see mail from 2006-2009 (nothing past 2009 gets restored).  I tried doing another restore and manually selecting the individual messages from 2010 onward, and BE crashed because I tried to check so many items to restore.  I then tried again only selecting about 500 messages and got an error about not being able to create the selection list (assuming this is also due to the number of individual items I tried to select).  Finally, I selected the entire inbox and ran the restore again and got the same result (only mail from 2006-2009 was restored).

Selecting individual messages in smaller groups might work but isn't really feasible since there are probably 50k messages that still need to be restored and the time required would be overwhelming.

So, I was able to restore mail from 2006-2009, but nothing past that, even though those messages were selected as part of the entire inbox.  I need to figure out how I can restore these additional messages.

I don't have BE support.  Any suggestions on what I can try?

That is really odd.  There are not any settings within BE2010 that would cause that to happen, at least not without errors (such as the Temp space being insufficient).  Even then, it would likely fail to restore anything.  Are you sure there aren't any filters on within the email client?  If you attempt to backup the 'restored' mailbox, do you see the emails within the backup selections?

No filters in the e-mail client.  I do see some e-mails from 2012 (the e-mails BE generates and places in the mailbox to let the user know a restore has taken place), so if you were thinking there was some type of date filter, that can't be so.

Temp space is no problem at all, the free space on the volume BE is using for temp space is several times the size of the entire Exchange information store, and I'm only restoring one mailbox from one database, and I never see free space on that volume get anywhere near a concerning level.

In BE, if I attempt to run a backup of the restored mailbox, it doesn't let me drill down to a per-mailbox level, I think that functionality is only available for restores.  In other words, BE will let you restore a single mailbox, but it doesn't appear that you can select to backup only a single mailbox.
Correct.  I should have clarified.  Do a test backup and see if you see all the emails that you expect (the 2012 emails) are available for a restore.  I just don't think that BE2010 is smart enough to sort by date and omit select emails.  Obviously, there are the 'restore over existing data' options, but that shouldn't come into play here.

Ok, I tried that and the 2012 e-mails are not available for restore, so it doesn't look like they are getting restored in the first place.
