Migrating from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011- Need to setup SBS 2011 with new .local name
I have inherited the task of migrating from an SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 (Standard). For some reason, whoever installed the SBS 2003, named the domain name to XXXXX.NET. I want to change that name on the new install to a .local name (XXXXX.local). I'm using the 2011 migration tools. Can do I change that to a .local name without running into issues? This is worth 500 points to me, as I need to have this completed before the weekend is up. Thanks experts!

If I do that, do you mean I would have to go to each client and export mail to pst, and then reimport back in, or is this something I can accomplish from the server side? As far data, I am assuming you mean all user directories/folders?

Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like the emerge will work for me.
The only supported method to achieve what you want is to build a new domain. Create new users/mailboxes. Disjoin and rejoin the clients to the new domain and then export all the mailboxes to PST and import them in to the new Exchange server.
You will also need to copy all the data etc.
