Every hour a SBS2011 server runs a backup job under event 753.  I sense it is related to Exchange but not sure as in the Scheduled jobs list there is nothing there.  I have Shadows Copies for twice a day and backup once a day.

The effect of this is that freezes the server so users get a spinning hourglass at these times.

Any help?

Thanks,

Joe

How many HDDs you have ? have you got RAID controller installed and configured ?
It could be faulty HDD!!! Can you do a performance test on Server's HDDs??

Three HDD', Raid 5, now errors in HP System Manager and RAid controller says all OK.

Interesting that some times it will take 10 minutes and it "seems" that it is doing some Exchange task, but I cannot tell for sure via the event viewer.  Other times in apparently runs and no problem.  There is no scheduled task that can see and have no clue why it runs.  Every hour on the hour.

This is the exact same condition:

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

Every hour?  Try every 6 or 12 hours and see if the problem still exists.

Thanks for your comment.  As I said in my previous post (see below) I cannot control this.

I have never seen Microsoft change for an "accepted bug", security issue, activation issue, or problem as a result of an update. You might want to look into that and see if you were improperly charged.  They do take credit card information at the start, but in any of the above situations, they do not normally charge.

So where do you call for support with Linux, and where do you get the features of SBS 2011 with Linux ?    :-)
Unfortunately though we may have issues with Microsoft, they still have the best small business solutions, and though we may not like the cost of support, they almost always locate and fix the problem.

I have to agree to that Rob however, still its always good to have an alternative. im not really familiar with linux but i read that too many enterprises are moving to it for the cost. security and other benefits.

I have been fighting an issue for months now, server freezing every hour for 10 - 20 secs, thought it was the VSS and I have being working around this area and no success, we use third party backup software, Windows Backup is unconfigured, but on the hour every hour, you could set your watch by this event, the whole network and server would freeze. At long last I have been able to resolve this, simply by going into the services, and disabled the Block Level Backup Engine Service. The whole network is running fine now and I am not getting the event any more in the log files under, windows logs, application, backup. If you use the Windows backup this many not be an option. How ever it has fix my issues, I hope this helps.
