Exchange server upgrade from Exchange 2003 and windows 2003 platform

Dear Experts:

We are currently using windows 2003 sp2 and exchange 2003 sp2 on SAN storage.
We would like to upgrade to exchange 2010 environment and windows 2010 Active Directory infrastructure.
Please advise on the best approach to upgrade such as:
1) Should we upgrade to windows 2010 Active Directory first or exchange 2010 first?
2) Are all windows 2003 objects upgraded  to windows 2010 Server automatically?
3) Should window server and exchange server on different SAN or it does not matter?
4) Should we add one new exchange 2010 server and use coexist mode?
5) How do we migrate all exchange 2003 mailboxes to exchange 2010 mailboxes?
    One by one or ...)
    (we have about 1,500 mailboxes)

I am looking for the best upgrade sequence and approach for our scenarios.

Thanks,

Charlie

1) personally I'd do my domain controllers first, but technically there's no preference either way.

2) what do you mean by Windows2003 objects? The AD objects stay the same just the schema is updated to include Windows 2008 features.

3) makes no difference at all.

4) you won't have a choice if you want to migrate, you will have to co exist.  If you use separate exchange servers then you will need to install a separate Client Access and Hub Transport server first.  If single server then it won't matter so much.

5)  do one or two first just to check everything is working then do them in large batches or all atone if you prefer.

Hi Demazter,
Thanks for yor quick reply.
Regarding (Q2) - I  meant "Do we need to worry about any AD objects issue if we choose to upgrade to windows 2010 AD before we upgrage to exchange 2010?"  Are there any impacts on our existing exchange 2003 users?

Regarding (Q4) - There are 4 exchange 2003 server in our exchange organization.  How do we introduce this new exchange 2010 server into our existing exchange 2003 infrastructure?

Regarding (Q5) - Do you migrate exchange 2003 mailboxes from Exchange 2010 CAS server?
How do you do them in large batches?

Regards,

Charlie
