Adding user

Hi,

When I try to add Windows 2003 server domain user in the local admin group of a Win 7 Pro client, I get an error that "domain either does not exist or could not be contacted".

How can I fix the problem?

Is that machine joined to the domain ? can you ping domain name ? e.g. Company.local ?

Make sure you are pointing to internal DNS servers only in TCP\IP properties of client machine
Hi,

Are you giving administrators instead of administrator? Is the server able to ping? Also, you can try it from Control Panel>>User Accounts>>Manage User accounts>>Add the local administrators group here.

Already joined. I can ping and browse the users and computers in the server but not able to add it. I am trying to add a user in the local admin group. My active directory and DNS server are in the same server.
what is the user that you are logged in to windows 7 machine ? does that have enough privilege ?
I tried with loca admin and domain admin but same error.
local admin , won't do it . but domain admin should be able to.  Did you restart this PC after joining it to the domain ?

Please run IPCONFIG and confirm it is using Domain Controller's IP as its primary DNS server.
Try this

After logging into Windows 7 with the domain account, do the following: -
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Select User Accounts icon.
3. The User Account window appears.
4. In the middle of the window, click Manage User Accounts.
5. The User Account Control window appears.
6. Provide the local administrator username and password.
7. Click Yes.
5. The User Accounts window appears.
6. Select Users tab.
7. Click Add button.
8. The Add New User window appears.
9. In User name text box, type the currently logged on user domain username.
10. In Domain text box, type the domain name.
11. Click Next
12. In What level of access do you want to grant this user pane, select a desired option, e.g. Administrator radio button.
13. Click Finish.
14. You are returned to User Accounts window and the currently logged on user is now listed in the Users for this computer list box as follows: -
UserName              Domain                    Group
<username>          <domain_name>      Administrators
when I issued Ipconfig/all I found that instead of internal DNS server, public DNS server address is used. And also the DHCP server is taken from the router becasue ip of the domain is 101, also DNS and DHCP.

C:\Users\administrator>ipconfig/all
