error message: The dependency (dependency.dll, version 1.1.1.1)  in myproject cannot be copied to the run directory because it would conflict with depdency  (dependency.dll, version 1.2.1.1)

What can cause this error message?

1. There is no mention of dependency.dll version 1.1.1.1 in any of the text of the solution
2. dependency.dll version 1.1.1.1 isn't referenced in any project for the solution
2. dependency.dll version 1.1.1.1 isn't on the machine running this build
3. version 1.2.1.1 of dependency.dll is referenced in many projects in the solution and that is the version in the run directory

I can get rid of the error message by adding a direct reference to dependency.dll version 1.2.1.1 to myproject in the solution.
I'm basically just curious as to why this is happening.

I even checked the references references to the projects giving the error and they don't reference dependency.dll version 1.1.1.1 either.

I do not want to add strong names in Global Cache Assembly because I don't need both versions.

thoughts as to why this is happening?

any thoughts of how i can track down who is trying to reference dependency.dll 1.1.1.1?

cheers,
alex

These are build errors. I can't send a picture because of proprietary info, but yes, its showing up as Build Error tasks... in a task list in visual studio

do you think any of these tools would help? Have you used any of these before for a dependency walker type of functionality?

http://reflectoraddins.codeplex.com/

specifically, looks like Assembly Visualizer, Graph, and Dependency Structure Matrix would all be related to the issue
