I have the following JQuery script in my classic asp site, in Safari it is causing an endless message to appear and doesn't allow me to proceed any further - any suggestions:

 // with added minvalue and maxvalue data attributes, forces an input field to accept only a range of numbers
  $("input.range").live("blur", function () {
    if ($(this).hasClass("req") || $(this).val() != "") {
      if (!$(this).IsBetween($(this).data("minvalue"), $(this).data("maxvalue"))) {
        alert("Value must be a " + checkValueType($(this)) + " between " + $(this).data("minvalue") + " and " + $(this).data("maxvalue"));
