Branch Office Location: Branchcache vs DFS
I have a remote location that we're looking to setup with a local copy of a data set from corp, I've looked at DFS for this and it looks to be a viable option. However, someone mentioned BranchCache and that also seems interesting, however, we'll need to use bitlocker, and I wasn't sure if I could use BranchCache on a set of files stored on a volume encrypted with Bitlocker.
In short, does BranchCache work alongside bitlocker.
Thank you,

Sorry for the delay in response.
I know with DFS there is a scheduled replication, with Branchcache, it is dynamic right?
ve3ofa, if I were to deploy a branch cache server and start with a full copy of the data, do I get a proper 2 way automatic (not scheduled) sync?
Thanks

with branchcache you have several machines on a remote site. When the remote site wants a file from the hq site they check locally to see if the file exists, if it exists it checks with hq site to make sure it is the most recent file if it is the most recent it grabs it from the remote site computer that holds the copy, if the master copy is more recent it informs the local computer that the file is outdated (it will delete it on the next scheduled cleanup) and then download the newer copy and store it in its branchcache store and advertise that it has the most recent file.
Branchcache has no synchronization scheduling at all. what it does is only download 1 copy of the file for the entire remote site and the other members will use the relatively local until the file is then updated on the hq server.
The only hit is the first time the file is requested and only needed files travel through the WAN
