Hi,

we have a DFS like domain.lan

domain.lan\departments\dep1
domain.lan\departments\dep2
domain.lan\departments\dep3
domain.lan\departments\dep4
domain.lan\special\special1
domain.lan\special\special2
domain.lan\special\special3

we just want to backup our files, nothing more, nothing less. we tried:

we selected the "shares" within our DFS structure like

1.)
\\domain.lan\department\dep3
result: only 0 byte files

2.)
\\servername\D:\
result: no files to select

so how can we backup our files ???

When you click on the "Environment" tab, it shows that it does indeed apply to 2008 R2. Tech56841 OS's it applies to

maybe it works on the "paper" but not in real live. when i seleect the Shadow Copy Components the backup with BackupExec runs 14x-16x times longer. so its no solution at all.

now i realy have to backup like:

\\servername\share$ and deselect dfsprivate for each and every $ share we use, thats crap.

I'm stopping the DFSR service on the servers during the backup and start them again after backup automatically using the 'pre/post commands' in the backup job properties.

To stop the service on remote servers I use 'psexec' from Microsoft Sysinternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553)

like i said, stoping the dfs service is not an option.

its not an solution but its simply a fact that there is no other way of using backup exec in combination with DFS. sad but true.
