How do I determine the licensing model of my sql server instance?
Hello,
I am newly in charge on an IT dept with several sql-servers that have been around a long time. I want to re-purpose one of them to be used by a larger number of users. I have no paperwork on this, it is sql-server 2005 purchased at least 5 years ago and well before my time.
I don't know if it's a 'per-processor' license, or CAL license, and don't know how many CAL's if it is this type of licensing.
How do I find that information? Is there a ServerProperty? Do I have to contact MS?
Thanks,

ashilo,
Thanks, but, as one of the comments to the post writes--this only works if I already know my license type and how many CAL's I have or if it's Per-Processor. This registry entry simply provides a way to store information one happens to know.
I don't know what my license situation is for this server so I need to know how to figure that out.
Or do I just wait until the black helicoptors land in the parking lot?
