asked on

creating e-mail macros/hotkeys

Hi Experts,

I would like to create macros or hot keys that allow me to quickly email people without having to type the same sentences over and over again.

I use macros in games all the time, so I'm wondering if I can do the same for e-mails.

For example:

clicking alt+1

pastes in an email: Hi XXXX, thanks for getting back to me.  Can you meet tomorrow at 9am?

I'm using Windows XP Proffessional, 32 bit.  Email clients I use on a regular basis are: thunderbird, microsoft outlook, gmail, and yahoo.

Thanks for your help!

I have never seen any freeware that will do what you want, however, the following program will do all that you want and more. It will allow you to add a message with a single-click, with a hot-key, or with a macro. It is only for Outlook. It is also fully customizable to add your own custom messages. Up to 10 can be set with hot-keys.

Hi, thanks for responding.  That's not exactly what I'm looking for but thanks for the suggestion.

I would really like something that let's me use it cross-email clients.  I thought maybe Windows itself had the functionality to do it somehow...

Thanks, I'm going to look at the differences and come back and respond.
Outlook 2007  (i have not looked at 2010) has a great feature called Quick Parts.  open a new message, type  your body that you want, highlight it, select Insert->quickparts->copy text to quickparts or save selection as new quickpart.  And then modify the name to something you'll memorize like in,  then when in any email, you can quickly type in followed by the F3 keyand you're text will be inserted.  Make as many as you want, and see the MS help file for Quick Parts.  May have to go online for any good instructions.

Not sure if tb has similar, but they do have Templates and drafts and Signatures that you can modify and i'd assume input quickly with various key combinations.
Hi Guys, I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to test any of these yet.
I tried autohotkey and at first it was a bit complicated but after going through their tutorials I found it easy to use.  Thanks.

You can use autohotkey to create a general windows macro; like opening up a browser with a few keystrokes.

I'm using it to create email responses for thunderbird.
