asked on

power door lock problems, Mitsubishi Galant.

From previous questions, the right rear door won't open. The child safety lock may or may not be engaged. That door is not used any way, so forget that one.

I turned the locking mechanism with my hand on the left rear door. That caused that rotating piece to move freely both counter clockwise and clockwise, which is not normal. That caused the left rear door to fail to close at all. I had to hold it closed with bungie cords tied around the rear interior door handles. Held tightly so the "entry" light would stay off.
I got a new locking mechanism for the left rear.
Now that door works fine. It closes properly, it opens properly when you pull up on the outside handle, or using the inside handle.

The door lock switch for all 4 doors is on the left front door panel.
Before the left rear door issue happened, this left front door switch worked fine on all 4 doors.
Even after I totally unplugged and removed the left rear door locking mechanism, the front door lock switch properly locked and unlocked the other 3 doors.
Now that I have the left read door working totally correct, the master door lock switch is failing. It will open and lock the right front door and both rear doors, but not it's own left front door.
The only way to lock all 4 doors now, is to exit the car and put the key in the door and turn the key.
Any ideas on why plugging in the new mechanism for the left rear door would cause the
master locking switch to fail to lock or unlock the left front door?

Thanks.

From my other questions there was a link to an article about using the key on the right front door, to lock and unlock the doors, and that would "reset" things.
But that is not working now.
You have asked help with your same door problem in so many differently worded and step by step progessive questions over the last few months... with no final result /solution / fix...

You may be better off with / or need profession car sercice /help ...

It is (apparant) or possible that you problem is not something you can / or are able to solve via a "do it yourself" repair?

I hope my comment is not offending to you ...
I want you to solve your door issue / problem as soon as possible.

3 different problems in total.

1 abandoned - right rear door that won't open.

1 fixed by replacing the door latch mechanism - left rear door.

1 "new as of today problem" - master door locking switch only locks the front right door and the two rear doors.
Coincidentally, the door that won't lock with the switch, happens to be a door that locked fine, before replacing the rear left door mechanism. The plug-in was removed and plugged back in. A 5 year old child could have done that, since it only goes on one way. There is no way to plug it in wrong.

So, today's question is about a totally new problem that started today, when the left rear door mechanism was replaced.

The entire locking system is rather complex:

4 door, power door locks.
A. If the key is inserted in the passenger side door, it will lock or unlock all 4 doors.
B. If you are in the passenger side in the front and use the power door lock button on the arm rest, that only controls the two right side doors.
C. And each of the right side doors can be locked or unlocked, using a non-power switch. This lets each of 4 persons in the car to control the lock on their door.
D. Moving to the left side, C. is true for the two left side doors.
E. The arm rest power control on the left front will lock or unlock all 4 doors, not just the left side.
F. If the key is inserted in the driver side door, and turned clockwise one time, it unlocks only the front left door.
G. Returning the key to the vertical position and clockwise again, will unlock all 4 doors.
H. Turning the key counter clockwise will lock all 4 doors.
I. Behind the left rear door locking mechanism were two steel rods about 18 inches long.
I assume all 4 doors have two steel rods.

So, there are 8 steel rods that allow all the actions above, to work properly.
A. through H.
I can see how something in all of that, could get out of sequence, out of whack, one of the 8 steel rods is too flexible and fails, intermittently.

This question was asked for a new problem. Once I successfully replaced the left rear door locking mechanism for under $10.00, the front left power door lock would unlock and lock all the 4 doors, except the front left.

Having driven the car around a few days, I have been able to lock all 4 doors using the left front power switch. Sometimes it locks the front door as well as the other 3 doors the first time I press the switch. Sometimes I have to press it two times.
Other times, I might have to use the key to lock the 4 doors.

The car is not worth an expensive repair bill, so no professional was consulted. I know what was involved in removing the left rear door panel, and for a mechanic to remove all 4 door panels, etc. the cost would be high in my experiences with repairs.

So, the only bad door is the right rear, which won't open at all. That is not a new problem and was only mentioned in this question. I never have more than 1 passenger, so that locked right rear door is the least used door, and can just stay that way.
