Server 2003 DNS service disables and shutsdown on Domain Controllers

I recently migrated from a Windows server 2000 to 2003 domain, by upgrading 3 member server 2003 to DCs using DCPROMO, step by step using tips from Microsoft's KB and others. The migration went fine, except, now randomly the DNS servers on the new Server 2003 DCs go to disabled (startup type) and shut down. This obviously causes major issues. The only events recorded are Event 3, other events in the log, include 3150 and 6522.

Before the migration we did see the Server 2000 DNS servers go to a disabled state, but the service would never shutdown. Again this happened randomly and without any log activity.

Does anyone have any ideas? I would think, with the importance of DNS with AD that I would see some events related to why the DNS service disables and shuts down. At least in Windows 2000 it would just disable, now I have to keep a constant eye to ensure the service stays running.

Double check that you do not have any AD replication issues.  Check the Zone configuration on the AD to make sure it is not limited to DNS servers on DCs only for the AD integrated zones.

You should have a DNS event that might explain this issue.
Weird that nothing is appearing in the Event logs, but run DCDIAG and check for other AD errors.
