Error 507

A little bit of history.. I purchased this phone off a guy that had it available for a sweet price and stated to me that the phone had the 507 problem and he "Thought" the phone was a Rogers phone. He really did not know. I thought, why not, its not a lot of money so lets see if I can get it going. Anyway, I found out later that the phone also does not have the sticker on the inside under the battery so I can not get the IMEI number either. (dont forget the phone will not boot due to 507)

Ok, so enough with the history, I am seeing the error from, loader "The Blackberry Desktop Software" does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected... yada yada yada" Herein is the real problem, everything I read on the Net about this issue tells me to download the OS for the device from my service provider. Again, I don't really know who the provider is for this phone, or even if it is actually locked to a provider for that matter. With every download I have attempted (I keep guessing who the provider might be) I get the error above. Am I up the creek here?

Hi Enee,

Start a command prompt and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader (or Program Files (x86) if you are on a 64 bit machine).

In that directory, run the following command:

loader.exe /nojvm

This forces the handheld software onto the device regardless of whether the phone is booted or not. Just make sure that you've got one version of the handheld software installed locally.

Hope this helps,

Mike

MikeTheRelic, thanks very much for the suggestion! I was all excited to come home this evening to give this a try. This is what happens when I try this:

My blackberry sits plugged in with its white screen of 507 (death). I run your command and FirstScreen pops up (see attachments). Then I hit Next and the secondscreen pops up. All this time my blackberry sat with the white screen showing....  When I hit next again I hear "thunk thunk" "thunk thunk" "thunk thunk" from the speaker of the computer, my blackberry goes black and the thirdscreen pops up on the computer. It seems the connection is lost between the computer and the blackberry somehow. What do I do now, any ideas? Thanks again!!

not to worry, i have done may software upgrades on bb's and i can assist you. it may seem like a lot of work. i'm just trying to be thorough.

your phone at this point is actually at the state i desire to install an operating system. its called a device wipe, think of it as a format of memory and fresh start

9700 is a pretty new phone, if you have not already, please download and install the latest version of the blackberry desktop manager.

then just plug in the phone to the computer windows should recognize it, on the taskbar, there should now be an icon that says device manager, open it up, it will tell you some info about your phone. we are mainly looking to confirm that it is a 9700 or if any other variant the specific number, ie. 9750 or 9730.

now we will just download the newest available software for that model. the provider doesnt matter, there is a trick to skip the provider check, however the model number does matter. the 9700 vs 9750 are diff phones one is gsm the other cdma. 9700 os will not work or install on the 9750.

to me the best source for operating systems is forums.crackberry.com

now simply search for your model number, open that forum, on the top 5 posts you'll see one for the correct model. more times than not it will point you to blackberry to download where you'll have to select the model again from a pulldown. you'll most likely have to fill out some information to access the download. once done, just install the OS.

now before anything else. browse on you computer to the following path

c:\program files\common files\research in motion\app loader

look for a file called vendor.xml and delete it. this is what locks an operating system to a provider

now from the same folder run the apploader.exe and you should be able to install your operating system.

let me know if you get stuck on any steps. it seems like a lot, but its no very diffcult or complicated.
Have you tried this?

did it work?

any problems?

thanks
