QuickBooks Pro 2012 Need a Report

I am running with 3 Bank accounts.  For some reason when I run the report "Gross Revenue by Item" I get the revenue from 2 accounts.  Instead of the one I want.

I can tell it is getting values from the second account because it is saying there is uncategorized income.  This only shows up in the second account that I don't want included.  I am used to Quicken and you could pick and choose where you wanted to draw your numbers from.

Please tell me how to get the report I am needing.

Thanks,

Randal

In QuickBooks, in any Report (just about any Report), click on Customize Report (upper left) and then click on Filters tab. In there you can click on Account and then to the right, use the pull down to select Multiple Accounts and then select the accounts your want.

This is a method I use all the time in Reporting and the selections you can alter are much broader than just accounts.

I found the multiple accounts and when I clicked the THP 2012 Bank account it said the report would be blank.  I then tried checking the accounts instead and it produced a blank report.

This is the report in Quicken we are used to, I have removed the values and totals.

So please tell me (step by step) how to get this report to print.  By the way all of the accounts, in the report, are in the Chart of Accounts.

Thanks,

Randal

If you have accounts in the chart of accounts that are empty (producing a blank report) you can hide them. For most reports, hidden accounts won't be used.

Please let me know precisely where you found the report (the menu and the precise name) and I will run it and see. I use QB V2012 Premier Accountant and did not a report by that name (although I see and I use item reports from time to time).

That report is what I am used to in Quicken.  The closest thing in QuickBooks is Gross Revenue by Item.

The accounts aren't empty that I am using.  I think I must have something wrong with how to do the filters.
John

The report I have that looks like that is Sales by Item Detail. This is Revenue by Item. It is most likely a difference in my version (Canadian) and your version (not-Canadian I think).

Items are in your Item list. Items point to accounts and this is how that report works.

So go to QuickBooks, Lists, Item List and look at that list. You may see the accounts in here that you don't want (and can edit out of the item).

Also, look in your Chart of Accounts (list it). Notice that accounts have types. Bank is a type, Income (Revenue) is a type and Expense is a type. There are more types.

Now, back to your first post, I am not sure why Bank accounts get into a Gross Revenue report. You need to make sure each account has a proper type.

Hello Randal,  I went back and reviewed all this.

Gross Revenue by Item: Items are a defined thing in QuickBooks, not just a term. Since you came from Quicken and are just starting with QuickBooks, you may not have Items, and if not, that explains why an Item report would be blank.

So look in QuickBooks, Lists, Item List and let us know what is there.

Please review your Chart of Accounts and check the accounts with account types that they make sense. I am concerned about your Bank Accounts. Please let us know on this.

Your Bank Account is (a) Bank type and (b) a Balance Sheet account. Bank Accounts should not have come in a Sales by Item report. See if you can see why that might be and let us know.

I think I may have found the problem but don't know how to fix it.  We have all of our transactions that we imported from Quicken.  Some of the transaction types we used were EFT, XFR, TXFR.  Quickbooks doesn't have these transaction types so it seems to be putting it in the uncategorized column.

In the Number
Type         column of the register it shows

EFT
CHK

How do I change the transaction type to what it should be?  These are transactions where the credit card company drafts our account for payment.  We also use EFT to pay the taxes online.  So I am thinking I need to clean up these transactions before the report will be correct.
John

You are correct that QuickBooks does not have these types. I am traveling for the next few hours, will think about it, look at my QB ledgers and get back to you.
