Wifi card installation on HP dv8t -1200 Pavilion

Hello,
Okay I admite my failure, but HP was once a reliable company.  Those days are gone!
Here's my problem, you might have heard of it, the HP Forum is over flowing with complaints about this.
The dv8t – 1200 Pavilion has a problem with its Wifi/WLan card, actually it is the motherboard’s poor engineering, manufacturing.
Getting to the chase here; I spoke with HP and they sent me a new wifi card.  When I spoke to them, they did not mention having to “REINSTALL THE OS” in order for the wifi card to work, or work properly.  I installed the new wifi card and it works, just not well enough.  And I have worked with other wlan cards, having to install its driver, but never the entire OS.
So here is my question, even though I am told by HP (the experts…right), I ask you; do I really need to reinstall the OS?  This to me is ridiculous.
Comments, laughs?
