Sharepoint site behaving differently in XP

Hi,

I am facing two issues:
We have build a sharepoint 2010 site with a web part whcih shows a list data in a web part with custom filter option we build in the web part..nothing fancy simple data display from multiple lists.

The setup is like this...Sharepoint server is under domain name abc.com and rest of the client machines are in domanin RND.com. Since both are on same network and sharepoint site url have been made accessable...Users in RND.com can access the sharepoint site.

In some machines everything is working fine..these are windows7 machines not sure if all are. But in some of the machine the site simple search option also doesn;t work. Both are using IE8 but second machine is XP where its not working.

I am not sure if it has to do anything with OS, but i might be wrong, as i am not SP expert.

2. Next issue is similar....on winows7 machine it's when I sync the calander with out look it works fine but on SP machine when i sync the calander with outlook it show the sharepoint calander but it does not show any items in them.

Any idea what could be the issue...I am not sure if its SP issue or the way server and clients are setup in different domains is the issue or its a issue with client machine.

Thanks in advance for your inputs,
Mahesh

When you say "The site's Simple Search doesnt work"; could you privide us with more specifics on HOW it doesn't work?

my first thought on the Sync with Outlook issue would be to eliminate/Confirm the OS as a potential problem. Find a Win7 machine AND an XP machine in the RND.COM domain and see if they both exhibit the same issue. This will help you isolate if it is an OS issue, or a domain issue.

A thought that just came to me, there is a chance that the SharePoint to Outlook Sync uses the SharePoint webservices (I can't find anything online to confirm or deny this. Maybe someone here could help answer that.) if it does, you could be looking at a problem with calling a WebService across different domains. As a normal behavior of the Internet, this crossdomain behavior is not allowed, but with modifications to the Web.Config it change be changed. Again, I can't be sure that this is something that would affect the Outlook Sync, but it may be worth looking into.

ASKER

Hi,

What I mean by search not working is...Its a web part where i fetch data from different list then i display them in a table...

On top of table i have put some test boxes to accept user entery for few fields...and search button click will requery the lists based on those filter values.

So on few machines its working fine but on few machines the search button does nothing. I can;t think of any way that it could be application issue as it is working on some machines and on server fine. And strange thing is even on those same machine where we the search is not working in IE ... it is working in Firefox.

Not sure what could cause such behaviour.

Thanks,
Mahesh
