JS - HTML WebForm Submission - prevent duplicate submit

I've seen some companies that have a mechanism for the SUBMIT button such that if it's already been submitted (in the process of submitting)  and perhaps their internet is slow (or whatever),  clicking a second time shows a message that the form was already submitted, and does not end up with the business receiving a duplicate form.

What is the strategy to accomplish this duplication prevention?
