if I do not touch iphone for a long time, says 2 new messages

how to get to
screen where iphone displays new messages

but then if I touch iphone, i can not get to that screen again

Do you mean the notification bar at the top of the screen?  You can pull it down with a downward finger swipe.

then would the phone have the same look
as
a phone that has not been touched in 10 minutes with the screensaver on
