hi my host xp pc is joined and logged onto the domain as usual just to test using my admin account.

a few weeks ago it was detected via my 'wsus member server' no problem.

as time has gone by i have removed the machine from the domain and the 'wsus server' and as stated above joined domain again but now cannot get it to be detected on my 'wsus server' like all my other machines have no problems.

i have checked the 'regedt32' on host xp pc and it does not show the expected details in the 'windowsupdate' folder and run the following:

gpupdate /force
wuauclt.exe /detectnow

ive also run same commands on the 'wsus server' and rebooted both machines but same problem as the 'regedit32' expected details still have not returned so i know that it will not be detected on my 'wsus server'

i have had this same problem before and in the end i had to uninstall everything and start again!!! something that i really dont wont to have to do!!!!!!!!:(

surely i can chop and change things as i wish without having to re-install!!

question 1. can anyone help ?

Give it a new ID for WSUS:

net stopp wuauserv

open REGEDIT (usual applies about backing up registry before changes etc etc)

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate - there are 2 keys:

SusClientID
SusClientIdValidation

Delete both of these and exit REGEDIT

net start wuauserv

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

hi i was just following simular instructions in this 'url' near the bottom but simular to what you have done.  just completed nothing changed after 2 mins although it stated it may tak 5-10 mins or 24 hrs.  not rebooted yet either although it did not say that and i have not done:

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

will let you know!!!:)

even though changes have been made on client machine x 2 it is showing the next update in 'regedt32' to update 16-03-2012 @ 12:22 - so i presume this is good!

i also ran:  wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow - on both host pc machines but wsus server still not detected although it does state to wait 10 mins!!!!

i then ran:  wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow - on wsus server but nothing updated as yet.  the next update on the 'wsus server' is today @ 18.49pm so 30 mins roughly to go!!!

hi although i did have 2 machines with the same issue, one of those xp machines have appeared in 'wsus member' server but the second did.

i may have to just re-install fresh and attempt again so i will take this main question as being answered!!

it would have been nice to find out why but oh well!!

appreciated!!!
