I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi Isa128,

The answer to your question is that iCloud has a setting which you can turn on and off for a shared calendar to Send An Email When The calendar is changed.  This you need to turn off for your calendar you have shared and for your friends calendar that he has shared for you.

Now one way (not the only way) of achieving this goal is;

Open iCloud.com in your browser and log in.
Go to the Calendar
On the left you will see all your calendar names
The one you have shared has a colored little circle to the right of the name.
Click on this and a little window will pop up.
This will show the people you have shared the calendar with
Then at the bottom you will see the check box to turn off.

I have no idea.  It might take a while for it to "sync" around all your devices if you are using an iPhone etc.  For me it seemed although I didn't really test it to be instant.
