You need the Microsoft Drivers 3.0 for SQL Server for PHP.  It's available here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20098  You must have PHP 5.3.6 or newer.  There are other files that you need to go with it.  Read the details listed under the download.

The 1.1 version of the driver works on XP and is still available.  http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8059
