Exchange access through Linux client

Hello Experts,

I'm not that familiar with Linux so I need some help. A user here runs Linux as his OS. His request is he wants to connect to the company's Exchange server through a Linux email client and he also needs access to his calendar and contacts. He wants his mail to remain on the server when he views it. Should I connect his email using MAPI? or IMAP4? Pop3? I'm not sure how to set this up. Will he need to use OWA to view his contacts and calendar? Thanks.

Another option is to install a gateway in front of the Exhange server: http://davmail.sourceforge.net/

Or install a Win7 in VirtualBox or similar and then install Outlook in the virtual machine.
