Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a wordpress template, does anyone know how to put this on a hosting site, like Dreamhost or GoDaddy?

Also does anyone know of any training for this to learn how to edit it locally on a laptop and some good info on how to do it ?

Thanks

Stick with Dreamhost, as their shared hosting is superior to GoDaddy.

Once you set up your DH hosting account, go to the One-Click Installs in your control panel and from there you will select Wordpress and follow the prompts.  DH will set up wordpress and the database for you.

Once you have Wordpress running you can upload the purchased theme either via FTP or the Wordpress Appearance interface.

To edit locally, you will want to install either WAMP or XAMPP to get the Apache, PHP, MySQL environment set up.  From there, just download Wordpress from wordpress.org and install it in the htdocs folder of your local server.  Use the instance of phpMyAdmin provided by WAMP to create a new database and then run the Wordpress install.  If you do it all correctly you will have a full local instance running and can install your purchased theme there for editing and testing purposes.

It sounds like a lot but if you have experience with phpMyAdmin then you will not have any real issues.

You can upload Wordpress themes via FTP or from within Wordpress itself.
