Problems with Windows server Backup - Windows Server 2008R2 Error 2155348001

Hi All,
I suddenly started having problems with Windows backup.  It was working fine for months and nothing has been changed and I've started to get this error within the Windows backup it says that the shared protection point timed out.  In the windows event log I get the message:
The backup has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backup up failed with error code '2155348001'.  Please help if anybody has the answer to this issue.  I've had a look on microsoft but not found the answer.

By the way Technet says to check the VSS logs for errors, I've checked and there are no errors there, the only messages there are that the VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout?

Hi,

Did you check to make sure the services are started?  Also, try recreating the backup job.

There are some issues like you described that are solved by service pack 2, so if you are not on SP2 yet, this would be the time to do it ;-)

Hi there, I am on service pack 1 but service pack 2 hasnt come up on my windows update - is this definitely available for Windows Server 2008R2?

Hi Goose,  The VSS service is manual it starts up when required by the backup -  I havent changed this.
I tested by creating a new backup just for the system state but it seemed to just hang.  I also noticed when I open the backup console it takes ages to come up with the details - window says 'Reading data please wait'
