restore database failed

I am trying to restore a back up into a new database that I just created. it gave me this message. Is there anything I am missing?

The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing (Restore failed

try to do a restore filelistonly to see what the backup contains.
Also, can you show the syntax you are using to do the restore

First I see two diffferent files in there..one is . trn and the other .bak

is there a difference?

what about the overwrite with replacement under options..do I need to check that?

The .bak is the full backup, the .trn is a backup of the transaction log.
You need to check overwrite the existing database.

What did you select initially, backup from database or backup from device?

Make sure overwrite existing is checked
