I am trying to set a value within a parent window from an iFrame:

parent.document.getElementById['filename'].value=document.form1.filename.value;

This is failing, throwing a security error code 1000.

How can I fix this?

We are not allowed to set the value for input type file. This is due to security reasons and that is why you are getting this error. There is no way around it.

Could the value be passed in $_SESSION?

Can $_SESSION data from an iframe be accessed within the parent window?

For that a round trip to server would be required and by then the file has already been uploaded so that won't be useful at all.
