Hi

Is EWS a required component in exchange 2010 if we dont have any mac/entourage clients?
Trying to control mac/entourage client access without VPN.
I am thinking of remove the EWS virtual directory from the CAS server that is open on the internet (port 443) and use a dedicated CAS server with EWS virtual directory that is not open on the internet.

EWS provides more than just access for MACs and other OSes. It also provides the functionality of Autodiscover, which is a fairly important piece of Exchange 2010's Client Access system as well as some lower level functions. Removing EWS from a CAS server will cripple it pretty badly, and is not a supported MS configuration. This means that if you do it, you'll never be able to get help from MS if things go bad in your system.
