Cannon MF8350 toner issue

I have a cannon MF8350 that I purchased 6 months ago.  I pretty much have only used it for light printing example to print kids homework assignments and scanning.

I suddenly get a flashing red error light that tells me that I have to replace my black toner.  And it won't print again unless i power cycle the thing.

Problem is I don't care to purchase toner.  I don't believe its empty and I don't want to pay cannon for the honor of telling me my toner is low when it shouldn't be.

How can I tell this thing to "Print anyway" and ignore the toner issue?  I would rather have poor looking prints than pay for another toner cartridge.

You don't mention how many pages you have printed, nor what type of coverage you usually print. "Kids homework" will likely include quite a few images, which can bump the coverage up way above the standard 5%.

The standard black cartridge in your printer is rated at 3400 pages. However, most printers are sold with "starter" cartridges. I don't know about yours, but typically they are rated for 1000 pages. If my guess is correct, that would mean that the cartridge would be empty after 2 reams of paper at 5% coverage. If images bump your average to 10%, it could be empty after just 1 ream.
