Netvault Restore Fails after ESXi 5.0 Upgrade

Hello

We recently upgraded our vcenter server and 5 out of 11 of our hosts to version 5.0 from 4.1

Everything seems to have gone fine during the upgrade.

Today i am testing the backups and although i can backup VM's as a whole, and individual files, i can not restore anything.

The error log for the netvault restore job is as follows:

Any idea what is going wrong?  I'm concerned now that we have upgraded half our hosts all the VM's have been backed up but we would be unable to restore anything

Help would be great!

Thanks

I've noticed that there is a new Firewall option in the security profile configuration of the hosts that have been upgraded.

It isn't there on the 4.1 hosts

Could this be whats causing the issue?

its possible. Firewall is included with ESXi 5.0.

Is there a way to disable the firewall?

It says that its allowing all IP addresses but would be good to just disable it

Just spoke to the vendor and we ran through a few tests

Normally when we restore a VM we restore it to a different ESXi server than it was originally on.

However with version 5.0 it looks like you cannot restore directly to a host, you have to restore to the Vcenter server and then that chooese which host to put the VM on.  In this case it put it back to its original host

Are you able to confirm that this is correct for version 5.0?

Thanks

This is correct, if hosts are managed by vCenter, all restores must be performed through the management server.

This is the same when using VMware Convertor, you must convert to vCenter server, and not the individual host.

You can remove from vCenter and restore direct.
