I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you have Versioning enabled, when you upload a document it gives you the option to "add as a new version".  Are you saying this isn't happening?

You can't have identical filesnames where this would create an identical URL.
By design, Sharepoint will check in the second file you check in with the identical URL as the second version of this file.
