Hello,

Ever since I use group policy to deploy wsus settings to my servers, I am seeing event id 12517 in the server system log (The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service suspended operation).

This service is always in manual mode and not started.  Does it need to be started at system startup?

What is WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service for?  I do not have a Proxy Server between our servers and WSUS.  They are all in LAN.

Please advise.

Thanks.

That service is to ease the auto detection of proxy server.
If you are directly connected to internet, not need of this service.
Have a look at this support page.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa384240(v=vs.85).aspx

You can ignore the event ID, or you can disable/delete the service.
