Internet explorer 8 is not letting me view the web

Hi,
Re: one of the PC's at work which has a XP operating systems and going to the web via the work LAN.

I can open ie8 but it does not view the web it just says failed but I can do windows updates and I can ping the web etc.  I uninstalled and reinstalled but no change.  Any ideas?

Look in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connection, LAN and make sure all the settings there (3) are unchecked. ... Thinkpads_User
